Eloise Hotel

Eloise is the irreverent and irrepressible fictional heroine of Kay Thompson’s classic book series, first published by Simon & Schuster in 1955.

She lives in the Plaza Hotel in New York City in the “room on the tippy-top floor” with her Nanny, her pug dog Weenie and her turtle Skipperdee. She is a fun-loving, self-assured six-year-old girl with a knack for finding adventure in every place she looks. Over sixty years later and not a day older, Eloise is so good at being bad, that she has earned the respect of precocious adults everywhere.

We were asked by Handmade Films to develop a game world for mobile platforms to help reach and engage with a new generation of Eloise fans. This is where the Eloise Hotel app comes in, a playful, explorable hotel full of characters to interact with, rooms to explore and games to play.

The app centres around the player exploring the hotel as Eloise in a ‘point-and-click’ (tap and move) play style. In rooms that emulate the books settings you can talk with characters from the series, complete tasks for them and receive gifts as well as discovering collectable items. There is also a daily hide and seek challenge to find your pets Weenie and Skipperdee.

The player will discover there are a number of games to play around the hotel. A frantic luggage sort at the bell desk is the first port of call, then there is the chaotic cooking challenge in the kitchen where you (sort of!?) complete the orders received. A more fantastical activity can be found in the bawthroom where Eloise lives out her pirate escapades in a top down treasure hunt at sea.

The released app offers new experiences for long-time fans and newcomers alike, with room to expand in the future.
